Hey everyone,

Welcome to what is officially our first post on here. December 9th is officially CancellersAnonymous’ birthday. We wanted to start by making sure that you have a face (well three faces) to associate to the blogs and opinions that you will be seeing here.

Drumroll please

Our first contest is …

Name: Ezekiel Kudde

Age: 20

Hobbies: My hobbies include Reading, learning about the history of the world, specifically the european region, Watching the Formula 1 Series.

Favourites: Watching redbull win, night rides

Motto:my sweet summer child”

Interest: My interests are mainly around Politics and how the use of the internet has helped to achieve politics awareness, especially within the younger audience.

Opinion on cancel culture: In my opinion cancel culture is wrong and creates an atmosphere of fear and anxiety for the normal person. Despite what some people might say that cancel culture does good by removing the platform of for example racists, my view would still be against it for the simple reason that by removing their platform the person will still remain a racist and instead we would be pushing the person further underground within an echo chamber which hate continues to spiral. Furthermore it does not allow the person to grow and learn from these mistakes whilst not allowing us to gauge the person’s opinion on the matter thus it would remove an element of how we might interact with the person.

Ezekiel Kudde (the man, the legend)

Our second contestant is …

Name: Kristina Marie Parker

Age: 23

Hobbies: Buying books and not reading them, travelling (thanks corona for ruining that) and working out.

Interests: As a communications student, I love writing, designing and have a keen interest in social media. I am also interested in courtroom drama and anything related to women’s rights.

My favourites: Gingerbread lattes, cozy sweaters, the moon (yes, I am a proud selenophile) and Friends (catch me writing this in my Friends pj’s, slippers and sipping a latte out of my Friends mug).

Motto: “Have no expectations” or, if you watch Love Island; “it is what it is”.

Opinion on Cancel Culture: I myself have contributed to cancel culture by unsubscribing or unfollowing people that have done something “wrong”. If people break the law, use their platforms to exploit or cancel others, I am all for these people losing their platforms and their right to having an influence on others. However I do understand that people make mistakes and learn from them and shouldn’t have their lives ruined by one mistake. The internet is very dependant on how you act and what you expose, so if you don’t want to get cancelled maybe you should post videos at a party mid-pandemic screaming “we don’t care”.

Kristina Marie Parker (our resident selenophile)

And our last contest for the day …

Name: Maria Farrugia

Age: 20

Hobbies: Doing buzzfeed quizzes as a means of procrastination (it is of utmost importance that I know what type of bread I am). Listening to the same two Spotify playlists on repeat. Drinking too much tea and hot chocolate.

Interests: My main interests in the communications field are production (specifically filming) and conducting quantitative research about public opinion.

My Favourites: Winter. Fries. Purple. Harry Potter (yes all of them). A dream within a dream. Harry Styles (two Harrys in one sentence … shocking). The Half of It.

Motto: “Florals in spring … groundbreaking” but actually “Always leave them wondering why.”

Opinion on Cancel Culture: I’m for cutting off toxic people and removing their platform and I have to admit that I’ve done it before by unfollowing people and even sharing posts to encourage other people to cancel someone. We’re living in a time where social media influence is money so cancelling is equal to boycotting brands. However I am also aware that cancel culture is something that was created by people and as such it is flawed. I also believe in redemption and learning from your mistakes so as important as cancel culture is no one should have their lives ruined over something that they said years ago. (cancel responsibly and always take responsibility for your online actions)

Maria Farrugia (according to buzzfeed, she’s banana bread)

So that’s us. The three musketeers.

We hope you enjoy the things we have coming and we’ll see you back here soon.
